From our Executive Director

This year's annual report is somewhat unusual. Let me explain. The Salt Lake Education Foundation's primary purpose is to support the Salt Lake City School District. My full-time position is the Director of Development and External Relations for Salt Lake City School District, and one of my primary assignments is to serve as the Executive Director of Salt Lake Education Foundation. This enables the fund development program to seek funding to support the district from a greater number of potential donors. In some instances potential donors would rather donate directly to a foundation, while others prefer to donate directly to the district or a specific school or program. As a result of our organizational structure, we are able to accommodate and respond to the needs of nearly all donors.

Michael Williams
The great unprecedented success of the foundation during the past two years would not have been possible without the invaluable contribution of our dedicated school board members, foundation board of trustees, and professional staff.

This year's report will include both Salt Lake City School District's Development and External Relations activities as well as Salt Lake Education Foundation's accomplishments. Our resource development organization is most unique within the nonprofit sector. Additionally, we have been very successful in receiving significant gifts in kind that enable us to use valuable financial resources, both appropriated and donated, to support high priority programs of the district and foundation.

This report is organized to highlight the district's and foundation's focus:

  • Community Learning Centers
  • Family Support initiatives
  • Teacher and school recognition
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programs (STEM)
  • Arts and music programs
  • Alumni support

The great unprecedented success of the foundation during the past two years would not have been possible without the invaluable contribution of our dedicated school board members, foundation board of trustees, and professional staff. As you peruse this report, I ask you to review the highlighted programs and opportunities that you may feel inclined to support. The Development and External Relations Department staff look forward to answering your questions and working with you as we move forward to provide support to the children and families of Salt Lake City.

Sincerely,

Michael L. Williams
