From our Past Chair

For more than 22 years, the Salt Lake Education Foundation has supported the students of the Salt Lake City School District in their endeavors to achieve academic success. Our long-term partnership with the Salt Lake City School District Board of Education has enabled us to become a robust organization with the capability to respond to the ever-changing challenges facing our students and their families. We are fortunate to have developed strong relationships with committed community partners, who provide not only financial and material assistance but volunteer support to our students and schools.

Support of Salt Lake City School District's Community Learning Center initiative is our number one priority as we believe that this method of education addresses entire families...

According to the most recent data from Salt Lake City School District, we are in the midst of a rapidly changing demographic, indicating that poverty is commonplace among the families of at least half of our students. A concentration of the most extreme poverty occurs on Salt Lake City's west side, resulting in highly uneven patterns of college access and success. We are dedicated to the understanding that it is our job, along with the help of our community partners, to attempt to quell the insidious nature of generational poverty by not only providing resources to support basic humanitarian needs but also hope.

We are committed to addressing the significant academic challenges facing the children of Salt Lake City by seeking to eliminate any culture of low expectations while at the same time applauding our highest achievers. Support of Salt Lake City School District's Community Learning Center initiative is our number one priority as we believe that this method of education addresses entire families, by providing much needed support beyond educational needs. We invite you to partner with us in this initiative and learn about its far-reaching implications.

We celebrate our continuing partnerships with individuals, businesses, and foundations that provide resources to support the basic humanitarian needs of our students. We are indebted to many friends who have joined with us in providing both encouragement and books to students as an incentive to read on grade-level by third grade. Our partnerships with donors, who recognize the importance of arts education, enable arts programs to flourish in our schools. We continue to seek partners committed to the support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs within the district.

We thank you, our friends and supporters, for your generosity and commitment to the students of Salt Lake City and kindly ask that you continue to invest in the future by making a donation today that will nourish the promise that lives in all our children.

Sincerely,

Martha Moench
