2023 Recognition Awards
Teacher of the Year
The nomination period for the 2023 Teacher of the Year award has been extended to April 8, 2022! Please show your support for your favorite teacher before the nomination period closes. Nominations must be submitted online using the nomination form.
Not only will the 2023 Salt Lake City School District Teacher of the Year receive a $2,000 award in addition to the $500 award for being one of the four finalists, but the teacher who is selected will be a candidate for the Utah Teacher of the Year award.
All Salt Lake City School District teachers who have achieved career status are eligible for consideration. Anyone may nominate teachers for this award. Nominations are accepted in any language.
Each school will have a committee to review nominations and select a teacher to be the school’s nominee for Salt Lake City School District’s Teacher of the Year. The committee will include school administration, parents, and community members.
The Salt Lake Education Foundation’s initial selection committee will review the nominees and narrow the selection to the top four candidates. The four candidates will be invited to complete the official 2023 Utah Teacher of the Year application. The final foundation selection committee will consist of a newly constituted panel with the exception of the chair of the selection committee. This committee’s responsibility is to select the Salt Lake City School District’s 2023 Teacher of the Year. The committee may elect to observe the candidates at the school during the school day. The candidates will be invited to a personal interview with the committee. Upon receipt and acceptance of the completed application and final interview, each candidate will receive an award of $500. The candidate who is selected as the district’s Teacher of the Year will receive a $2,000 award at a special recognition event in August.

Special Education Teacher of the Year

Early Childhood Teacher of the Year

Counselor of the Year
The nomination period is now open for the 2023 Counselor of the Year award! Please show your support for a favorite counselor before the nomination period closes on May 15, 2022.
The Counselor of the Year will receive a $1,000 award. All Salt Lake City School District Counselors who have achieved career status are eligible for consideration. Anyone may nominate a counselor for these awards.

The selection committee will consist of up to five members including a Salt Lake Education Foundation representative, a community member, and a district administrator. The committee will review the nominees and select the district’s 2023 Counselor of the Year.

Classified Employees of the Year
The nomination period is now open for the 2023 Classified Employee of the Year awards! There are five classified employees of the year categories: Child Nutrition Employee of the Year, Transportation Employee of the Year, Buildings and Grounds Employee of the Year, Office Personnel (SLEOPA) Employee of the Year, and Hourly Employee of the Year.
Please show your support for a favorite classified employee before the nomination period closes on May 16, 2022.
Each Classified Employee of the Year will receive a $750 award. Anyone may nominate employees for these awards.

The selection committee will consist of up to five members including a Salt Lake Education Foundation representative, a community member, and a district administrator. The committee will review the nominees and select the district’s 2023 Classified Employees of the Year.

Principal of the Year

The 2023 Salt Lake City School District Principal of the Year will receive a $1,000 award in addition to the $200 award for being one of the two finalists.
Any Salt Lake City School District principal who is a licensed administrator in the state of Utah, an employee of the Salt Lake City School District, and an active principal for at least three (3) years is eligible for consideration. Anyone may nominate principals for this award.
The Salt Lake Education Foundation’s selection committee will review the nominees and narrow the selection to the top two candidates. The finalists will be invited to complete the 2023 Principal of the Year application. The candidates will be invited to a personal interview with the committee. Upon receipt and acceptance of the completed application and final interview, each candidate will receive an award of $200. The committee will then select the Salt Lake City School District’s 2023 Principal of the Year. The candidate who is selected as the district’s Principal of the Year will receive a $1,000 award.

Assistant Principal of the Year
Please show your support for your favorite assistant principal before the nomination period closes May 31, 2022.
The 2023 Salt Lake City School District Assistant Principal will receive a $1,000 award in addition to the $200 award for being one of the two finalists.
Any Salt Lake City School District assistant principal who is a licensed administrator in the state of Utah, an employee of the Salt Lake City School District, and an active assistant principal for at least three (3) years is eligible for consideration. Anyone may nominate assistant principals for this award.

The candidates will be invited to a personal interview with the committee. Upon receipt and acceptance of the completed application and final interview, each candidate will receive an award of $200. The candidate who is selected as the district’s Assistant Principal of the Year will receive a $1,000 award.
