Construction Update

Construction is moving forward on several projects. We are excited to break ground at West High School later this month and expect to break ground at Highland High School in April.

Student athletes are already adjusting to temporary practice locations:

  • West High teams are using the track and field at Glendale Middle School.
  • West High baseball and softball teams are practicing at Rosewood Park.
  • Highland High teams are practicing at the new Rosslyn Heights Sports Complex.

Thank you to our coaches, athletic directors, bus drivers, and construction crews for working together to coordinate schedules and keep student activities running smoothly during this transition.

Budget Development: Capital Projects

Capital projects address building needs and help us keep up productive and safe learning environments for students and staff. The capital project report lists the projects planned for each school in the 2026–27 school year.

Facilities teams visited schools and worked with school administrators to identify capital needs. Projects were prioritized based on student safety, repair urgency, and responsible maintenance of district facilities. That's why you might see projects at schools that are being rebuilt or in buildings where schools or programs may consolidate in the future. Facility needs change over time, but our commitment to safe and productive learning environments for students remains the same.

Proposal to Establish a Student Advisory Council

We’re exploring the creation of a Student Advisory Council for the coming school year to strengthen student voice in district decision-making. The council would include our Student Board Members and representatives from each high school. The students would meet monthly to share ideas and provide feedback to district leaders and the Board of Education.

Job Reclassification

The district recommended changing the Testing Compliance Assistant position from an hourly role to a contract position. Before making this recommendation, Human Resource Services reviewed needs and conducted a job study to understand how other school districts support necessary testing.

The board will revisit this recommendation at a future meeting. The additional time allows employees and community members to review the proposal and provide feedback to board members.
